About this project

Céide Fields is the oldest known field system in the world dating back almost 6,000 years. It is a unique Neolithic landscape of world importance and is in UNESCO‘s tentative list to gain World Heritage status.

The refurbishment project included for a new exhibition which tells the story of the everyday lives of the farming people who lived there.The visitor centre has been dramatically changed providing a state-of-the-art visitor centre to showcase Céide Fields, the world’s most extensive Stone Age monument.

The main exhibition area was fully stripped back to the structure, new walls and ceilings were constructed to provide a new flow through the centre, new handrails and ballustrades were installed to meet current reguations, high specification of finishes, construction of a 360 cinema room complete with structural steel framing and bi-directional curved walls and a very high specification of electrical installations to meet demands of a state of the art exhibition.

Many different techniques were incorporated into the fit-out of the centre.  An immersive audio-visual 360-degree animated displays, state of the art technology, graphics, and interactives along with items from the era significantly enhance the visitor’s experience.
